Many people dismiss hair loss in men as part of growing up and getting older, however for some men the idea of losing their hair is not something they can simply “get over”.

If you are suffering with male pattern baldness you will understand that once your hair line begins to recede and bald spots appear, you are well on your way to permanently losing your hair – however, it doesn’t mean there aren’t different ways you can conceal hair loss and even encourage it to return.

If you have started to lose your hair and are looking for a way to keep it concealed, there is a whole host of options available to you:

Medication

If your hair began falling recently, or the rate at which it is falling has suddenly increased, you may want to look into how different medications can prevent further hair from falling, as well as encouraging new growth on bald spots.

Both Propecia and Regaine work towards preventing further hair loss and encouraging future growth. Propecia comes in the form of a pill and usually takes three months before results begin to show and two years after first taking the full benefits are experienced.

Regaine, however, is a cream that is used to stimulate circulation to the scalp which in turn encourages hair growth. For four in five men the cream prevents further hair loss, whilst three in five experience regrowth.

If you stop taking either medication at any point it is important to note that any regrowth will be lost, and your hair will begin to fall again at the rate it was, or quicker, than before you began the treatment.

Tattoos

Hair tattoos can be used to disguise hair loss by creating the illusion of a short hair in each follicle, whilst the repeated pricking of the needle will increase blood flow and stimulate the scalp – the needle can also help by reopening closed or blocked hair follicles.

Whilst the needle might have an effect on encouraging growth, the treatment is primarily cosmetic and is only guaranteed to visually alter the look of your hair.

Transplants

Hair transplants are a relatively new hair loss treatment, but have become more and more common with celebrities such as Calum Best opting for it as a hair loss solution.

Transplants are done in one of two ways, firstly individual hairs may be taken from the back of the head, and implanted individually in hair follicles on bald areas. The second way is to remove a strip from the back of the head and implant it in the front – which one you opt for is completely up to you, and something you can discuss further with your surgeon.

Wigs

Wigs have come a long way over the past few years and now are almost always undetectable. Unlike the scratchy, synthetic wigs of yesteryear, wigs of today are often handmade from real human hair to create a much more realistic hair piece.

If you’re losing your hair and don’t want to take permanent action or seek medical attention, a wig is the perfect quick fix to conceal your unwanted hair loss. Wigs last for many years – when taken care of properly – and can make all the difference to your confidence and how you feel when you catch yourself in the mirror.

Losing your hair is a natural part if ageing for many men – however, if you want to hang onto your youth for a few more years, keeping a hold of your hair is a good start.
